The collection includes family and church-related correspondence, including sermons, scrapbooks, writings, and diaries of Henry C. Lay while an Episcopal priest in Virginia, 1846-1847; in Huntsville, Ala., 1847-1859; missionary bishop of Arkansas during the Civil War; and missionary bishop of the Diocese of Easton, Md., 1869-1885. Included is a journal of Episcopal acts for most of the years 1863-1885 and European travel diaries, 1866-1867 and 1878-1879. The Addition of July 2010 consists of a recipe book, circa 1915, belonging to Eliza Atkinson Lay.
